Bengaluru Under Orange Alert As IMD Warns Of Heavy Rain, 50 Kmph Winds In Next 3 Hours

The India Meteorological Department on Tuesday placed Bengaluru and nearby districts under an orange alert, warning of very heavy rain and thundershowers in the next three hours. Officials said the bad weather could disrupt normal life and urged residents to follow safety advice carefully.

Forecast data pointed to moderate rain across many locations, with short but intense spells in some pockets. Gusty winds may reach speeds between 40 and 50 kmph, which officials said could increase the risk of damage to weak structures and trees.

The alert covers Dharwad, Gadag, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapura, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kolar and Ramanagara districts. Officials warned that electricity supply in some areas could face temporary disruption. Minor traffic congestion is also possible as heavy showers slow vehicle movement across busy routes.

Authorities advised people to stay indoors where possible, keep doors and windows shut, and avoid any non-essential travel. Residents were asked not to shelter under trees, to unplug electrical appliances, and to remain away from lakes, streams and other water bodies while the adverse conditions continue.

Motorists were cautioned to drive slowly due to slippery roads and reduced visibility during strong rain. Farmers were told not to leave harvested crops in open fields, as the downpour and wind may damage produce. Officials said these steps could help reduce losses and safety risks during the orange alert period.
