Bengaluru Traffic Jam: Airport Road Flyover Towards Hebbal Jammed As Cyclone Fengal Brings Torrential Rain
Cyclone Fengal has thrown Bengaluru city into disarray, with heavy rains battering the city for the past two days. Monday morning began with a challenging commute as a viral video surfaced, showing a massive traffic jam on the airport road flyover near Sahakar Nagar in North Bengaluru. Vehicles were stranded for kilometers, creating severe inconvenience for motorists.
The flyover, which connects Kempegowda International Airport to Hebbal, was clogged with bumper-to-bumper traffic, with cars stuck on both the upper and lower levels. Travelers from Devanahalli, Chikkaballapur, and the airport heading towards the city were caught in long queues, while frustration grew due to the absence of traffic police to manage the situation.

Bikers and motorists faced additional struggles as they tried to navigate through the relentless rain. Despite donning raincoats, many found it difficult to see clearly, and pothole-ridden roads exacerbated the challenges. Key areas, including Shanthinagar signal and Majestic main road, were particularly hard-hit, with rainwater filling potholes and further impeding the movement of buses and vehicles.
Overflowing stormwater drains (rajakaluves) made matters worse, flooding nearby roads and rendering walking impossible for pedestrians. Tourists visiting Bengaluru were left disappointed as their plans were disrupted by the downpour.
Meteorologists predict that the heavy rainfall will continue for the next three days, urging motorists to exercise caution. Since Saturday, Bengaluru has been experiencing continuous downpours, and Monday's morning rush hour served as a grim reminder of the city's ongoing traffic problems.
Officials are advising residents to carefully plan their travel routes to avoid hotspots like Sahakar Nagar and Majestic. Videos of the traffic chaos, showing vehicles inching forward in torrential rain, have gone viral on social media.
Cyclone Fengal's impact on Bengaluru underscores the city's persistent infrastructure challenges and its ongoing struggle with traffic congestion.
