Bengaluru Traffic Advisory: Veerannapalya To Hebbal Service Road Closed For Pothole Repairs

The Bengaluru City Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory due to pothole repair work being undertaken by the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) on the service road from Veerannapalya towards Hebbal Circle. The repair work is scheduled to take place from August 18, 2024, to August 21, 2024.

During this period, the service road will be closed to the public from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am each night. Commuters traveling from Veerannapalya towards Hebbal Circle are advised to use the main track of the Outer Ring Road (O.R.R) as an alternative route.

Bengaluru Traffic Advisory Veerannapalya To Hebbal Service Road Closed For Pothole Repairs

The Bengaluru City Traffic Police request the cooperation of the public during this time and apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Earlier on August 14, Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda shared a video on X, highlighting an unrepaired road in Bengaluru and urging the BBMP and Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to address the issue. However, his post was met with public outrage on social media, with many criticizing the deteriorating state of Bengaluru's road infrastructure.

In his post, Gowda mentioned, "The public has sent me a video of the service road on the Ring Road from Veerannapalya towards Hebbal. BBMP or BMRCL, whoever is responsible, please fix the potholes and repair the road to address the public's concerns."

Back in May, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had given the BBMP a one-month deadline to repair around 5,500 potholes in the city. He noted that there were 5,500 potholes on ward roads across Bengaluru, including 557 on arterial and sub-arterial roads. The chief minister had instructed the pothole task force to address all these issues within a month.

In July, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar, along with BBMP, launched the "Road Pothole Attention" mobile application. This app uses advanced technology to identify and repair potholes across Bengaluru's road network, aiming to improve transparency and efficiency.

Shivakumar had previously claimed that 96% of potholes in Bengaluru had been fixed. He stated that from April 1 to June 30, 16,202 potholes in BBMP limits were identified, of which 15,686 (96%) had been repaired, leaving 516 still in need of attention.

Potholes have become a growing concern across the nation, leading to numerous accidents and even loss of life. Despite ongoing complaints, the issue persists, with road conditions deteriorating in many cities. Videos and CCTV footage frequently surface on social media, showing bikers and vehicles involved in serious accidents. Unfortunately, in many areas, despite repeated appeals from residents, the road conditions remain unchanged.

Over the past 10 days, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) received 1,376 complaints related to potholes through its app. As of August 14, 964 of these complaints were still awaiting resolution, according to reports.
