Bengaluru Rains: Cloudy Skies Turn To Unexpected Torrential Rains Across Garden City

Torrential rains lashed Bengaluru on Monday evening, creating a massive civic menace once again. The west and northwest parts of Bengaluru, including Nagasandra, Peenya, Nagarbhavi, Ullal, and Rajajinagar, can expect moderate rains.

According to Vijay, a weather enthusiast from 'Namma Karnataka Weather,' said that an intense rain band has been picked up by radar to the west of Bengaluru, near Magadi. ''Lightning detection has also been positive, indicating a potentially hybrid rain band. Fingers crossed that it will move in without weakening and bring much-needed heavier rains to the city,'' he wrote.

Meanwhile, water-logging was reported atop the KIA elevated corridor at Kodigehalli. Incoming traffic towards city (Hebbal junction) has been affected. Diversions have been made near the Railway bridge and vehicles need to use the service road. Commuters are requested to cooperate.

It's been a frustratingly cloudy day in Bengaluru, with occasional showers but no significant rainfall. However, today has seen a sudden turn of events, with torrential rains lashing many areas of the city. Neighborhoods like Corporation Circle, Shanthi Nagar, Wilson Garden, Lalbagh, Basavanagudi, Kabban Park, V.V. Puram, Banashankari, Kormangala, Richards Town, Cooke Town and Chamarajpet have received significant rainfall.

The rain has caused confusion among vehicle riders, making commuting a challenging task. Despite the rainstorm raging in North Karnataka, Bengaluru had been largely dry until today. Let's hope this intense rain band brings much-needed relief to the city!

According to the IMD, coastal cities in Karnataka are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with the intensity increasing starting today. Precipitation levels are anticipated to reach 60 percent. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely to accompany the rainfall. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) shared an update on X, stating, "For the next 5 days, on July 8, 10, 11 & 12, heavy rain is likely in the coastal districts of the state. An #OrangeAlert has been issued by the IMD, with heavy rain expected on July 9."
