Bengaluru New Year’s Eve Restrictions: 32 Flyovers Closed From 9 PM, Check Traffic Alert

Hours before the New Year celebrations kick off in Bengaluru, the city is decked out with stunning decorations, particularly along MG Road and Brigade Road, which are illuminated with colorful lights. These iconic streets are sparkling with festive decorations, creating the perfect atmosphere for the celebrations. The city is buzzing with excitement, and authorities have permitted festivities on MG Road until midnight tonight. The countdown has officially begun, with people flocking to the streets to usher in the New Year 2025.

32 Flyovers Closed as a Precautionary Measure

32 Flyovers Closed

As the celebrations unfold, the Bengaluru police have implemented precautionary measures to ensure public safety. A total of 32 flyovers across the city will be closed from 9 pm tonight until 6 am tomorrow. This decision has been made to prevent any untoward incidents during the New Year festivities. Motorists are advised to use service roads to navigate around the closures. While the city's vibrant nightlife and celebrations will continue, these closures are in place to manage traffic and maintain security during the high-traffic hours.

The flyovers affected by this closure include Dairy Circle, Hennur, ITC, Banaswadi, Kalpalli, Domlur, Nagawara, Medahalli, OM Road, Devarabisanahlli, Mahadevpura, and Doddanakundi (except the elevated expressway leading to the KIA airport). These closures are part of the city's traffic management strategy to handle the large crowds expected to gather in various parts of Bengaluru for the celebrations.

Two-wheelers will be prohibited on the KIA International Airport Elevated Expressway from 12 pm on December 31 to 6 am on January 1.

In the midst of the festivities, Karnataka has witnessed a record surge in liquor sales. According to B. Govindaraju, General Secretary of the Federation of Wine Merchants Association of Karnataka, liquor worth ₹408.53 crore was sold across the state on December 28. This marks a record high in sales, with daily sales averaging around ₹100 crore. The surge in sales came after a holiday was declared on December 27, and liquor licensees were given extended credit facilities by the Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Limited (KSBCL).
The sales figures are staggering: on December 28, more than 6.2 lakh cases of whiskey and spirits were sold, along with over 10 lakh cases of liquor, including nearly 4 lakh cases of beer. The total sales amounted to ₹80.58 crore for beer and ₹327.50 crore for spirits, setting a new record for the highest amount of liquor sold in a single day.

The Federation of Wine Merchants Association has thanked the officials for their cooperation in facilitating smooth transactions, which contributed to the record-breaking sales. With New Year celebrations in full swing, people are flocking to tourist destinations and popular spots around the city.

The Countdown to the New Year 2025 Begins

As Bengaluru prepares to ring in the New Year 2025, the celebrations are expected to continue into the night. The December 31st is in full swing, with a lively and energetic atmosphere taking over the city. The streets will remain packed with revelers, and the countdown to 2025 has already begun. Despite the precautionary traffic measures and record liquor sales, Bengaluru is set to close out the year on a high note, celebrating the arrival of the New Year across every corner of the city and state.
