Bengaluru Shocked: Rs 2 Crore Looted From 22 People Through NoBroker App Fraud
In a shocking incident in Bengaluru's Hebbal locality, a man named Girish has vanished after reportedly swindling 22 individuals out of a total of Rs 2 crore. The scam involved purportedly leasing a property via a 'No Broker' app, where Girish collected hefty sums ranging from Rs 7 to 10 lakh from each victim, promising them a rental deal that was too good to turn away from. Each of these individuals was shown the same house, leading to a collective loss that has left the victims in despair. In their quest for a dream home at an affordable price, they instead encountered a nightmare that has now led to a complex police investigation.
Girish, exploiting the digital platform, advertised a house for lease in Cholanagar, near Hebbal, attracting the attention of those desperate to find a new home. Through persuasive communication, he managed to collect advance payments, assuring the potential tenants of securing the lease. However, as time passed, Girish's promises turned out to be empty. He concocted various excuses, from renovation delays to tenant issues, to justify the hold-up. When pressed for refunds, he issued cheques from accounts under his wife and other family members' names, which bounced due to signature mismatches or incorrect spellings, adding insult to injury for those defrauded.

This elaborate hoax not only involved Girish but seemingly had the backing of his entire family, including his wife Deepa, father, and other relatives, all of whom played parts in this orchestrated fraud. Victims, upon realizing the deceit, approached the Hebbal police station to lodge a complaint, hoping for swift action. However, dissatisfied with the police's response and the magnitude of the fraud, they escalated the matter to the Central Crime Branch (CCB), seeking justice and the return of their hard-earned money.
It's a tale that underscores the perils of online transactions, especially in the real estate domain, where the lure of convenient deals can sometimes lead to substantial financial losses. The victims, many of whom had saved up for years, aiming to secure a comfortable living space, are now facing the harsh reality of betrayal. Their trust in a digital platform and the individuals behind it has resulted in a situation where they are left seeking legal recourse to recover their investments.
Despite the ongoing investigation and the registration of an FIR, the whereabouts of Girish and the involvement of his family members remain a subject of intense scrutiny. The victims' ordeal highlights a growing concern regarding the security and reliability of online rental and leasing services, prompting a call for more stringent verification processes to safeguard against such fraudulent schemes.
The emotional and financial toll on the victims is profound, as they grapple with the consequences of this scam. It serves as a cautionary tale for others in Bengaluru and beyond, emphasizing the need for vigilance and due diligence in online dealings. As the quest for justice continues, the incident remains a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities inherent in the digital age, where not all that glitters is gold.
