Bengaluru Police to Challenge Bail of Actor Darshan, Co-Accused in Renukaswamy Murder Case
On Tuesday, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda announced intentions to challenge the bail granted to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and other individuals implicated in the Renukaswamy murder case at the Supreme Court. This action follows the Karnataka High Court's decision last Friday to offer conditional bail to Darshan, who is listed as the second accused in the case. The court also extended bail to Darshan's associate, Pavithra Gowda, along with R Nagaraju, Anu Kumar alias Anu, Lakshman M, Jagadeesh alias Jagga, and Pradoosh S Rao. This group of accused is connected to the violent demise of Renukaswamy, a fan of the actor, under distressing circumstances.

The saga unfolded when Renukaswamy, reportedly a fan of Darshan, was accused of sending inappropriate messages to Pavithra Gowda. The altercation escalated to his murder, with his body discovered near a stormwater drain adjacent to an apartment in Sumanahalli, Bengaluru, on June 9. The narrative took a turn when Raghavendra, a member of Darshan's fan club and one of the accused, lured Renukaswamy to a shed in R R Nagar, under the guise of meeting the actor. It was here that Renukaswamy was allegedly subjected to brutal torture and eventually killed. The medical examination posthumously revealed that the victim, hailing from Chitradurga, succumbed to shock and hemorrhage caused by multiple blunt force injuries.
The police have pointed to Pavithra Gowda, the first accused, as a pivotal figure in the murder, alleging her involvement in instigating the crime, conspiring with the co-accused, and actively participating in the act. This assertion underscores the complex web of relationships and actions leading to the tragic event.
In the wake of these events, Darshan was apprehended on June 11, alongside Pavithra Gowda and 15 others connected to the case. The 47-year-old actor, already on interim bail for health reasons, was released from Ballari jail on October 30, following a six-week medical bail from the Karnataka High Court to undergo spine surgery. Meanwhile, Pavithra Gowda was released from the Parappana Agrahara central prison, having completed the necessary bail formalities.
Commissioner Dayananda emphasized the ongoing efforts to appeal the bail decisions, signaling the police's commitment to pursuing justice in the Supreme Court. A formal proposal is set to be presented to the state government, marking the next step in this legal battle. This case, entwined with celebrity, alleged vendettas, and legal intricacies, continues to capture public attention as it unfolds.
