Bengaluru Is Bengaluru Because Of North Indians: Woman's Comment Sparks Online Debate

A video featuring a woman claiming that "Bengaluru is Bengaluru because of North Indians" has sparked an online debate. The clip, shared on X, shows her discussing the cultural differences she noticed after moving from North India to Bengaluru. She remarked, "I don't know about the cultural shock, but people here do hate North Indians. That's what I observed".

She further alleged that locals in Bengaluru often refer to North Indians as "these Hindi people." According to her, there's a noticeable change in behaviour when people realise someone is from North India. She mentioned that auto drivers charge them more and they are frequently labelled as "Hindi people."

Mixed Reactions Online

The video was posted on Saturday and has since amassed over 691,000 views and nearly 5,000 likes. Comments varied widely; some supported her perspective while others highlighted the importance of attitude in social interactions. One user stated, "I don't see anything wrong in her statement! And that's how it should be!"

Another user commented on the significant presence of North Indians in Bengaluru's business scene: "Most of the well-established companies or startup founders and employees in Bangalore are from other parts of India. She is not wrong." They questioned why language should create such divides.

Attitude and Perception

However, some users attributed the perceived discrimination to attitude issues. One person noted that their Bihari friend, who speaks some Kannada, receives better treatment than themselves. They suggested that being humble and attempting to speak the local language can lead to more favourable interactions.

Another commenter agreed with most of her points but disagreed with attributing Bengaluru's success solely to North Indians. They acknowledged local resentment towards non-Kannadigas but felt crediting only one group was unfair.

The discussion highlights ongoing tensions between locals and migrants in Bengaluru. While some feel welcomed, others experience challenges due to cultural differences and perceptions. The debate continues as more people share their experiences online.
