Auto Driver Dragged on Bonnet After Collision on Old Airport Road in Bengaluru; Car Driver Detained

An auto-rickshaw driver was allegedly dragged on the bonnet of a car following a collision on Old Airport Road around 12.45 pm on Tuesday.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Vikram Ampte, the incident occurred after a car Maruti Suzuki XL6 collided with the auto-rickshaw on the busy stretch. In the aftermath of the crash, the auto driver was seen clinging to the bonnet of the moving vehicle.

Police said the car driver, identified as Suresh, has been detained and is being interrogated. The vehicle involved in the incident has been seized by the Halasuru police for further examination.

The authorities found out the driver has a history of reckless driving. Turns out, the car's insurance wasn't even valid anymore-another clear violation of the Motor Vehicles Act. Driving around without insurance, and doing it recklessly, just shows a blatant disregard for the rules and zero sense of responsibility.

The episode, which was captured on video and circulated widely, shows the car moving with the auto driver on the bonnet, triggering concern among commuters on the arterial road.

Old Airport Road, which connects key localities in east Bengaluru, witnesses heavy afternoon traffic, including office-goers, BMTC buses and two-wheelers. The incident led to tension in the area before police intervened.

Officials said a case has been registered and investigation is under way. Statements from the auto driver and witnesses are being recorded. Police are also examining the sequence of events that led to the collision and the subsequent act.

Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, police said.
