Vaikasi Visakam: Over 1 lakh devotees worship Lord Muruga
Tiruchendur, May 24: Over one lakh devotees from all over Tamil Nadu offered worship to the famous Subramanian temple here and also at Tiruparankunram near Madurai on the auspicious 'Vaikasi Visakam' day today.
Devotees took a bath in the sea near the coast and took out a Kavadi (dance performed by devotees during ceremonial worship of Lord Muruga) to the temple.
Visakam is the birth star of Lord Muruga.
The festival to mark the day began on May 15 when an idol of the Lord was brought to 'Vasantha (Spring season) Mandapam and special poojas performed. The idol was taken around it and hymns in praise of the Lord were recited from Vedic and Tamil scriptures.
The temples were opened at 2 AM today with 'Viswaroopa dharshan.'
