Rajasthan: Video reveals family commits suicide to meet god

Rajasthan
Jaipur, March 29: The blind belief that they will meet god, led a family in Jaipur to kill themselves. The family consumed cyanide filled laddoos. It was a video recording of the incident which gave the police a clue as to how the deaths took place. The incident took place in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan.

According to sources the 'family was extremely religious and performed religious ceremonies'. Even on television, the only programmes they watched were religious serials. The children were 'highly influenced by a serial on Lord Shiva', informed the source.

The video shows that prior to committing suicide, Kanchan Singh, the head of the family, asked every member of the family why they wanted to die and also about their feelings. After that the family sat together and Singh gave them the laddoos laced with cyanide. Within minutes of eating the laddoos 5 of them died.

When Singh's niece Rashmi saw her family members dying she got panicky and ran to inform the neighbours.

While 5 of them died on the spot, 3 others are battling for their lives at Sawai Mansingh Hospital. The deceased have been identified as Kanchan Singh, his wife Neelam, brother Deep Singh, son Pradyumn and daughter Rini.
