Petrol price hike: NDA thunders, calls for bandh on May 31
Sharad Yadav, NDA convenor and JDU President said that all the partners of the alliance have been consulted.
Slamming the government for the move, he further said, "This is an eyewash...We (NDA) are going to observe a Bharat bandh on May 31."
Sharad further questioned the government's motive for not announcing the price hike in the parliament's session and the oil companies for taking the step a day after the session was over.
"The government has washed their hands clean on price hike, but in reality, it happens only when the government wants it to happen. The Government will also increase prices of diesel and LPG after the Presidential elections get over," he said.
"Common people are suffering due to the wrong policies of the UPA Government. Prices of commodities are rising uncontrollably, making it difficult for an average Indian to make ends meet," he said.
The government on Wednesday announced petrol price hike by Rs 7.50 per litre effective from the midnight of May 23.
The price rise has invited criticism from various political circles.
