K'kulam nuke row: Church demands govt to defreeze accounts

Chennai, Mar 9: Reacting to the government action against Tuticorin Diocesan Association, Tamil Nadu Bishops' Council (TNBC) has expressed displeasure against centre for freezing bank account of the social service society as they have been facing massive problems to carry out their financial activities.

TNBC has also denied the allegation that churches in Thoothukudi were supporting and funding agitations against Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP).

Society have initiated steps in taking up the issue with the home ministry to defreeze the accounts.

Officials from the TNBC said that the Centre was trying to mislead the country by giving an impression that Church was against public interest.
