Setback for Gujarat govt, 2-yr-old cousins to tie the knot

Gujarat Map
Amerli (Gujarat), Jan 31: In a shocking incident, two-year-old cousins from Gujarat have been engaged and booked for marriage in a public ceremony in the presence of a former MLA last Sunday.

The incident shows that the state that claims to have achieved growth under the leadership of Chief Minister Narendra Modi is still imbibed with the customs of child marriage.

The cousins named Jai and Jiya belong to 'Leuva Patel' community which has reportedly been suffering from a deficient sex ratio with 750 girls for 1000 boys. The sarpanch of the community stated that he has started a new tradition by getting these cousins married which in turn will benefit the community.

Meanwhile, the parents of girl expressed happiness for the marriage saying that the marriage amongst the cousins will prove beneficial for the girl as she is well versed with the customs and traditions of the family.
