Mullaperiyar: Kerala snubs Tamil Nadu's words, wants NEW dam

Mullaperiyar Dam
Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 10: It seems that the Keralites are no more interested to wait for the approval of the Tamilians over the controversial Mullaperiyar dam issue, they are all set to storm the country with their demand to build a new dam.

Such drastic changes have been noticed among the Keralites when the Chief Minister of Kerala, Oomen Chandy on Tuesday, Jan 10 met Union Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal. Before meeting the minister, Chandy clarified his stand on the issue saying that Keralites will not backtrack from their demand of making a new dam at Mullaperiyar. The CM also informed that Kerala will agree to have an independent committee which will take decision on the distribution of water (between Kerala and Tamil Nadu) from the new dam. [Read: Mullaperiyar: Kerala hoping for a yes from TN for a new dam]

Earlier Chandy was quoted as saying, "We should agree to the idea of a new dam. We can make reasonable adjustments." But the heat in the voice of the Kerala CM has not been left unnoticed.
