Rahul Gandhi meets kin of Mawal police firing victims

Talegaon (Maha), Aug 18: AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi today (Aug 18) visited the kin of three farmers who were killed in police firing in Mawal taluk of Pune district on August 9.

"Rahul Gandhi is on a visit of Mawal region today where he will assess the situation post the firing incident," a state Youth Congress leader said.

Three farmers were killed and many others injured when Pune Rural Police opened fire on a protest against a closed pipeline project that facilitates supply of water from Pavna dam to the industrial township of Pimpri Chinchwad in Mawal taluk on August 9.

Gandhi's visit came in the backdrop of the Opposition Shiv Sena-BJP combine criticising the Congress leader for not visiting the farmers.
