Section 144: Rahul Gandhi can avert arrest, not Anna Hazare
Anna Hazare was first detained from his Delhi residence without even entering the region where section 144 was being imposed. Later other members of Team Anna - Arvind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi, Shanti Bhushan were also detained. Delhi police soon arrested Anna and his other supporters.
Rahul Gandhi, who was detained and released soon in Uttar Pradesh during his protest in Bhatta Parasaul, had entered the prohibited region and overruled Mayawati government's order by holding padayatra (foot-march).
Comparing the two incidents, many started asking about the different actions taken the against Anna Hazare and Rahul Gandhi.
During a press conference, Kapil Sibal, P Chidambaram and Ambika Soni on Tuesday claimed that Anna was arrested as he rejected to hand over the undertaking given by the Delhi police.
Here it can be recalled that a letter was sent to team Anna stating 22 conditions over resuming their fast protest at JP park in Delhi. Team Anna rejected to accept few of the conditions and had vowed to stage the "peaceful" agitation.
However, Rahul Gandhi, despite his arrest, had continued his protest followed by an agitation by Congress workers. Rahul staged the padayatra over forceful acquisition of land from UP farmers.
