Price rise corners govt, debate-vote in Parliament today

New Delhi, Aug 3: The third day of the monsoon session of the Parliament will be a crucial day as the government nodded positively for debate on price rise issue for which the opposition parties created ruckus in the House on the first two days of the session.

The debate also entails vote which might be proved as a major setback for the ruling UPA government. However, the government currently is enjoying the majority of 273 along with 47 supports from outside, while the combined opposition number is 209.

Citing the logjam in the proceedings of the House in the initial two days, the government has bent to the demand of the Opposition parties led by BJP. The government also fear that the crucial longstanding legislative issues can also suffer over opposition's continuous row over the price rise issue.

Sources also confirmed that similar kind of debate followed by vote will be arranged in Rajya Sabha. Earlier, BJP leader Sushma Swaraj had claimed, "We are willing to discuss all issues. Let the government agree for discussion." The opposition parties' attacks came after the PM irked them by stating, "The Opposition has too many skeletons in its cupboard."
