Miracle in Tihar: Dementia hit Kalmadi signs Pune projects

Pune/New Delhi, Jul 25: The multi-crore scam hit Suresh Kalmadi, who was the chief of Organising Committee (OC) during Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2010, made miracle in Tihar jail. Kalmadi, who reportedly is suffering from dementia, signed a crucial project for his constituency - Pune.

Dementia - a disease that causes memory loss, impaired reasoning and personality changes, hit Kalmadi when he was lodged in Delhi's Tihar jail over his disputed role in CWG scam.

Recently, Kalmadi was criticised as the "worst performing MP" for spending only 20 percent of the allocated funds for Pune. Now, the recent move by Kalmadi might be an image-building exercise.

"Kalmadi had signed the letter of his new proposal on Jul 13, but the fax was sent from Tihar Jail on Jul 18," informed a source from election branch.

A noted lawyer K T S Tulsi said, "If it (dementia) had settled at the time of offence, it may have a bearing on his culpability," and also added, "As per the law, a demented person suffers from a global memory loss. If there is a memory loss at the time of the commissioning of the offence, it is not possible to have a fraudulent intention."

Kalmadi's lawyer informed that his client (Kalmadi) has been suffering from dementia for the last four to five years. Now, here are the questions that has been raised - how come an MP suffering from dementia sign projects from Tihar? Is it Kalmadi's trick to escape the court trials over CWG scam? Will dementia be the weapon for Kalmadi to snub the law which can bruise him over allegations against him?
