Four policemen suspended for death of villager in custody

Hisar, Feb 18 (PTI) Four policemen were suspended inconnection with the custodial death of a Sainipura villageresident, police said today.

After preliminary investigation, Hisar''s Superintendentof Police Hanif Qureshi, today ordered suspension of MunshiAnoop Singh, constables Inderjit Singh, Bhagwan and HardeepSingh of the Hansi police station on charges of negligence anddereliction of duty.

The body of Subhash Saini, who allegedly committedsuicide, was found hanging from the ventilator of the policelock up here. The resident had been detained on the night ofFebruary 14 for "creating public disorder".

A furious mob had torched city police station Hansi andSisai police post in the district on Hansi-Barwala road, about26 kms from here, following the death of Saini in policecustody.

The jeeps of the DSP and Station House Officer and severalmotorcycles parked at police station Hansi were also set onfire by the mob, with allegations that Saini had been torturedwhile in custody.
