Andhra CM speaks to Chidambaram about collector''s abduction

Hyderabad, Feb 17 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NKiran Kumar Reddy today appealed to the Centre to make effortsfor the early release of Malkangiri district Collector RavellaVineel Krishna, who has been abducted by the Maoists.

Reddy spoke to the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram andrequested him to use his good offices for the early return ofthe IAS officer, who hails from Guntur district in AndhraPradesh, a release from the state government said.

Reddy also spoke to Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaikand assured him that the Andhra Pradesh government wouldextend all necessary help in this regard.

Earlier, following directions from the Chief Minister,Chief Secretary S V Prasad yesterday spoke to his counterpartin Orissa, D K Patnaik, over phone and requested him to makeall efforts to get Krishna released at the earliest.

The IAS Officers'' Association (AP Branch) too hasrequested the Orissa government get Krishna released.

The 30-year-old R V Krishna (IAS 2005 batch, OrissaCadre)was kidnapped on February 16 by a group of 50 Maoistswhen he was on a visit to the remote Chitrakonda area.
