Rahat''s visa to be extended
New Delhi, Feb 15 (PTI) The government has decided toextend the visa of noted Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh AliKhan, who was detained by revenue enforcement authorities atthe Delhi airport for allegedly carrying USD 1.24 lakh.
"His visa has expired. His visa will be extended,"Home Secretary G K Pillai told reporters on the sidelines of afunction here.
Pillai said Khan''s passport has already been impoundedand he has been asked to appear before the Directorate ofRevenue Intelligence on February 17.
"We hope that post 17th (February), there could beadjudication proceeding and we hope that the matter would beresolved," he said.
Officials claimed to have seized USD 1.24 lakh in cashand two demand drafts of over USD 18,600, from Rahat and someof the members of his troupe on Sunday when they were planningto catch a flight to Dubai for onward journey to Karachi.
Carrying enormous amounts of money without declarationis an offence under customs rules and could attract chargesunder Foreign Exchange Management Act.
