Demand for tax exemption for councillors having one house
New Delhi, Feb 11 (PTI) A demand was made by a municipalcouncillor today that present and former members of thecorporation be given exemption from property tax if they ownonly one house which is not being put in commercial use.
"The employees of MCD as well as present and formercouncillors who have only one house and are not using it forcommercial purpose should get exemption in property tax,"Congress councillor Khavinder Singh ''Captain'' told a specialmeeting of MCD which was debating the civic body''s 2011-12budget.
He also sought property tax exemption for senior citizenswho rely on their pension and who have property in their ownname which is not being used for commercial purpose.
The Congress member accused ruling BJP in MCD of notfulfilling their poll promises and blaming Delhi governmentfor their own "failures". He said MCD is suffering from lackof coordination and mismanagement.
Several other members, including BJP''s Pravesh Vahi, alsotook part in the debate. Ajit Singh Chaduhary of Congressclaimed MCD did not spend a single rupee of the Rs 344.22crore allocated under 191 heads in 2009-10.
