Four-day ICAR sports meet in Thrissur from Feb 16

Thrissur, Feb 7 (PTI) About 2,000 students are expectedto participate in the XII Indian Council of AgriculturalResearch (ICAR) sports meet to be held at the Vellanikkara andMannuthy areas in the district here from Feb 16-19.

Out of the country''s 49 Agricultural universities, 43have confirmed participation, K R Viswambharan,Vice-Chancellor, Kerala Agricultural University (KAU), toldreproters here. The event is held under the auspices of KAU.

A team of 40 students from each university willparticipate in the championship and the estimated cost of theevent is Rs 45 lakh, said Viswambharan. He added that the ICARhad sanctioned a sum of Rs 50 lakh for the purpose.

Viswambharan said KAU''s proposal for an internationalstadium complex of about Rs 10 crore had been approved by theICAR in pricinple and the foundation stone for the structurewould be laid by the Union Minister of State for Agriculture,K V Thomas on Feb 16.
