''Plethora of challenges before judiciary in civil aviation''

Chandigarh, Jan 29 (PTI) A Supreme Court Judge today saidthere is a plethora of challenges before the judiciary in thecivil aviation sector in the wake of liberalisation,globalisation and privatisation.

Inaugurating the Second Leiden-Sarin International AIRLaw Moot Court Competition on the campus of Punjab Universityhere, Justice G S Singhvi said, "Two months back air fare roseand nobody attempted to find reason...problems are growing tomultiply in future too."

The legal luminaries must identify their role in the"untouched area of civil aviation", he said.

He said that the development of a country depends uponthe growth of airports.

"The closure of airspace over part of Europe has givenrise to legal issues," he said.

He said that the challenges of future are complex, as thecompetition would become "stiffer on various fronts".

"The future of judiciary was safe, but the challenges weretremendous," he said while expressing dis-satisfaction overthe time spent by the government in providing compensationin land acquisition cases and accidental cases.
