R-Day: Security tightened in Punjab and Haryana

Chandigarh, Jan 25 (PTI) Tight security arrangementshave been made in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to ensurethat the Republic Day celebrations pass off smoothly tomorrow.

A hawk-eye vigil is being maintained at key publicplaces and security personnel have been deployed in strengthat the venues where top dignitaries will unfurl the nationalflag.

Security has been heightened at public places likerailway stations, bus terminuses and airports, officialsources said.

Police and other security personnel have intensifiedchecking of vehicles across the two states and in this UnionTerritory, they said.

The Republic Day function in Punjab will be held atJalandhar where Governor Shivraj Patil will unfurl thenational flag, while Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badalwill do the same at Ferozepur.

Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia will unfurl thenational flag at Panchkula, near here, while Chief MinisterBhupinder Singh Hooda will unfurl the flag at Kaithal.

In Chandigarh, the main function will be held at theParade Ground.
