Political leaders condole Sabarimala tragedy
Chennai, Jan 15 (PTI): Political leaders in Tamil Nadu andstate Governor Surjit Singh Barnala today condoled the deathof 102 Sabarimala pilgrims in Kerala on Friday night.
''I am deeply shocked and grieved to hear about the tragicincident,'' Barnala said in a Raj Bhavan release here.
Conveying his ''sincere condolences'' to bereaved familymembers, he also wished the injured a speed recovery.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who expressed hiscondolences, also announced a compensation of Rs one lakh eachto the kin of the deceased, besides Rs 25,000 for the injuredwho hailed from Tamil Nadu.
He also directed the Theni district administration torush medical aid to Pulmedu, the accident spot.
AIADMK chief and Opposition leader Jayalalithaa expressedgrief over the incident and said she would pray for the quickrecovery of the injured.
