593 students awarded degree in convocation

Rourkela (Orissa), Jan 15 (PTI) A total of 593students were today conferred degrees in various streams inEighthConvocation of National Institute of Technology, Rourkela(NIT-R) here.

While 365 students were conferred with B Tech degree,29 got M Sc, 166 M Tech, 19 M Tech Research and a recordnumber of 14 PhD.

Kalyan Saurav Dash of Electronics and InstrumentationEngineering department was awarded Gold Medal as BestGraduate of the year while Leena Sinha of Civil Engineeringbagged Gold Medal for the Best Post Graduate, Gloriya Panda, agraduate of the department of Metallurgical and MaterialsEngineering was conferred with coveted professor BhubaneswarBehera Gold Medal for Best All-rounder of the 2010undergraduate batch and Tulippa M Ladwa, a graduate of theElectrical Engineering was conferred the Institute Gold Medalfor Best B Tech project of 2010.

The autonomous institution presented DistinguishedAlumnus awards to Prof Laxminarayan Bhuyan, working asprofessor and chairman of the Computer Science EngineeringDepartment at the university of California, Riverside, USA andChandra Prakash Gurnani, chief executive officer (CEO) ofMahindra Satyam Computer Services Limited for theiroutstanding contribution.
