Youth Congress blocks road demanding compensation for farmers
Berhampur (Orissa), Jan 12 (PTI) Vehicular trafficbetween Aska and Bhubaneswar was hit today when Youth Congresssupporters blocked the road at Kabisurya Nagar in Ganjamdistrict demanding adequate compensation to rain-hit farmers.
The Youth Congress activists also sought ex-gratia tothe kiths of the peasants who died due to crop damage in theuntimely rain.
At least 14 farmers have lost their lives due to thecrop failure, they alleged.
Several farmers also gheroed the tehsil office atDigapahandi demanding opening of paddy purchase center in thearea.
Due to the delay in opening of the paddy purchasingcenters, there were chances of distress sale of paddy, thefarmers feared.
