Ramesh gives green signal for Navi Mumbai Airport

Mumbai, Nov 22: The Environment ministry has given green signal for Navi Mumbai International Airport on Monday, Nov 22.

The Environment ministry, Aviation ministry and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd (CIDCO) have reached in compromise for the construction of the new airport.

After months debates and controversies, Environment ministry has given the nod for the project. During the press conference, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said that approval has given for the project.

Jairam Ramesh said that 90m hill near to the runway will be cleared as the removal is unavoidable. But he added that river Gadhi will not be diverted. He suggested a shorter runway to protect the river.

"With these compromises we are fully on board and will ensure speedy work," said Jairam Ramesh.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel also participated in the press conference.
