No bail for Amit Shah

Amit Shah
Ahmedabad, Oct 8: There seems to be no respite for former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah as a special CBI court here on Friday, Oct 8 squashed his bail plea citing that if let out the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader may hamper investigations.

Shah, who has been arrested in connection with the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, may misuse his political powers if freed, Special CBI Judge G K Upadhyaya observed while rejecting his bail plea.

While hearing Amit Shah's bail plea, the court also noted that a good amount of evidence in the form of statements recorded under the CrPc has been gathered to support the fake encounter case.

The Central Bureu of Investigation (CBI), investigating the 2005 fake encounter case, arrested Amit Shah on July 25 and charged him with murder, extortion and kidnapping.
