Fate of Kashmir lies in Sep 15 all-party meet

AK Antony
New Delhi, Sep 14: With no end in sight to the violence in Kashmir valley and lack of any concrete decisions coming from the earlier Cabinet Community on Security (CCS) meeting, an all-party meet has been scheduled for Wednesday, Sep 15, when a final decision on the matter is expected to be taken.

“Important decisions have to be taken after carefully assessing all aspects. Yesterday"s (Monday, Sep 13) Cabinet Community on Security had a very long meeting. Ultimately we thought before we take a final decision, we will take into confidence all the major parties so that everybody is involved," Defence Minister, Ak Antony told reporters on Tuesday, Sep 14.

"Don"t worry, we will take a decision. Tomorrow is the all-party meeting. After that, we will take a decision," the Minister said when asked why the CCS was unable to take a decision yesterday (Monday, Sep 13) on issues, including withdrawal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act from some parts of Jammu and Kashmir," he added.

Expressing pain over the spurt of violence in the valley on Monday, Sep 13 over the desecration of the Muslim holy book, Quran, in the United States, the minister appealed for calm and restraint.

"As we all know, the situation is very serious. We have to handle the situation carefully," he said.
