Militants strike Orissa market, kill one

Rourkela, Sep 4: Militants of Jharkhand Liberation Tigers (JLT) attacked a weekly village market in Orissa"s Sundargarh district killing one person and injuring three others on Friday, Sep 3 evening.

According to the police, about 10 armed JLT militants stormed the market at Katepur, located along the Orissa-Jharkhand border, and started firing indiscriminately at the crowd.

Militants were demanding closure of liquor shops and gambling dens in the area. They laterdisappeared into the forests of Jharkhand after an hour, the police added.

The person killed in the firing has been identified as 40-year-old Prasanna Naik. The victim's body along with six spent cartridges was recovered by the police on Saturday, Sep 4 morning.

The Jharkhand Liberation Tiger is a splinter group of erstwhile Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) of the neighbouring state.
