At least 36 killed, 23 missing in China torrential rains
New Delhi, Aug 17 (ANI): At least 36 people have been killed and 23 are missing following torrential rains and severe flooding in Longnan City in China's Gansu Province.
According to the Gansu Provincial Government, the rain-triggered floods have prompted the evacuation of 122,835 people to emergency shelters.
It also said that the direct economic loss had reached 3.116 billion yuan, while a total of 22,000 houses and 30,000 hectares of crops have been destroyed.
Over 1,000 workers repaired power facilities in the city and electricity supply on trunk lines have been restored, the Xinhua news agency reports.
However, mobile phone services in worst-hit Huangzhu were only partly restored.
Meanwhile, the provincial civilian affairs department dispatched supplies, including 3,000 candles, 4,000 flashlights, 10 tonnes of flour and four tonnes of rice, to the affected areas. (ANI)
