Efforts to neutralise Mumbai oil spill on
Mumbai, Aug 9: On-spot and off-field efforts to neutralise the Mumbai oil spill and curtail its effects are on amid reports of the massive environmental hazards that the spill is set to unleash.
While Navy and the Coast Guard is carrying out the anti-pollution operation at the collision site, a high level meeting is set to take place during which the situation will be assessed.
Officials of the Maharashtra Environment Department, National Disaster Response Force, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Shipping Department, Mumbai Port Trust and other concerned agencies will be attending the meeting to discuss the situation and to formulate future course of action, sources said.
On Sunday, Aug 8 six coastguard vessels and a helicopter with anti-pollution dispersal spray systems were pressed into service on to contain the oil spill, which was caused due to a collision between two cargo ships off the Mumbai coast on Saturday, Aug 7.
