Times square bomber wanted to avenge war in Afghan
Dubai, Jul 15: The "testament" video of the Pakistan-born terrorist who plotted the Times Square bombing has yet again proved that the war in Afghanistan continues to be the inspiration behind terrorists waging jihad against United States and its allies.
Al Arabiya television on Wednesday, Jul 14 released 40 minute long video in which a man purportedly Faisal Shahzad explains why he tried to blow up the landmark in New York.
The TV said that it was the traditional "testament" video, which is a footage made generally by suicide bombers before attacks.
"This attack on the United States will also be a revenge attack for all the mujahideen," a man wearing traditional tribal clothes and sitting with an assault rifle said in the video.
"Eight years have passed since the Afghanistan war and you shall see how the Muslim war has just begun and how Islam will spread across the world," he added.
The suicide bomber also praised Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud and al Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi as martyrs.
Shahzad tried to bomb the Times Square in May 2010 but failed. He was nabbed before he could make an escape out of United States within days of his bombing attempt.
The Pakistan-born American later pleaded guilty to attempting to set off a car bomb in New York's Times Square.
