Hotel prices to go up by 25 percent: Hotel Association of India

Lucknow, July 9 (ANI): Hotel and restaurant rates will be increased by around 25 percent. This was decided after a Hotel Associations of India meeting in Agra.otel owners said they have been compelled to increase the rates of the rooms, while restaurant owners added that food prices have soared considerably.

A few restaurant owners also said that the hike in rates will result in a fall in the number of local tourists, and added that during the Commonwealth Games, only foreign tourists be able to afford the hiked rates.

"The chances of tourists coming during the Commonwealth Games are decreasing. People will feel that the hotel charges are expensive. That is why there will not be many customers," said Nandi Gupta, a restaurant owner.

The constant inflation has left very few options to hotel and restaurant owners.

"There is no solution to this other than increasing the rates. Until and unless you do not increase the price, you would not be able to earn money and eat food," said Mahaveer Singh Nathawat, President of Tourism Welfare Society of Rajasthan.

Officials of the Guide Associations said that such situations demanded new policies from the government that would let tourism flourish.

"We want to inform the Tourism Department that they should make a policy to control it, in order to bring in tourists," said Dhananjay Singh, General Secretary, Guide Association of Varanasi. (ANI)
