Kids raised by lesbian parents grow up to be psychologically well adjusted

Washington, June 8 (ANI): A new study has shown that kids raised by lesbian parents grow up to be psychologically well.

They are academically active and have positive social behaviours, the US National Longitudinal Lesbian Family Study revealed.

The study, published in the medical journal Pediatrics, observed children of lesbian couples from the time of conception till adolescence.

The results were found out after following 77 families of both girls and boys starting from 1986.

The mothers and their children were asked to fill out psychology-based questionnaires about their feelings and experiences.

The mothers graded their kids with the Child Behavior Checklist.

Although, according to Dr. Nanette Gartrell of the University of California, San Francisco, there is no confirmed proof that lesbian parenting is good or bad than the established way of parenting, reports CBS News.

"The things we know that make for good parenting are love, resources and being very involved in your child's life," Gartrell told Reuters Health.

"What this data shows is that it's not the parenting that seems to be the issue, but rather the stigmatization," Ian Rivers, professor of human development at Brunel University in Uxbridge said. (ANI)
