Aussies urged to stop swearing for Schizophrenia Awareness Week
Melbourne, May 17 (ANI): Aussies are being asked to give up swearing for one whole week to help raise money for schizophrenia research.
Sports commentator Ray Warren and a host of celebrities are leading the challenge to give up bad language as part of Schizophrenia Awareness Week from Monday May 17 until Sunday May 23.
"If schizophrenia, which destroys so many people, benefits from me taking swearing out of my vocabulary then obviously it can only be a win, win result," News.com.au quoted Warren as saying.
One in every 100 young people will develop schizophrenia, which is a lonely disease where patients are often plagued by constant voices that contain offensive language.
Money raised in the SwearStop campaign will go towards the Schizophrenia Research Institute.
Other ambassadors behind the campaign include national rugby league players Ben Ross and Nate Myles, Triple M radio's Mark Geyer, Miss World Australia Sophie Lavers and celebrity chef Ben O'Donoghue.
Warren agreed that giving up swearing will be quite a challenge.
"I'm wondering how I can refrain when I miss that two foot putt on the golf course," he said.
Anyone can take part in the campaign by registering online at www.swearstop.com.au. (ANI)
