Modi's appearance before SIT deserves commendation, says Venkaiah
Chennai, March 26 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday said that the appearance of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi before the Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) deserves the highest commendation.
"Why Congress people make absurd statements at BJP leaders for each and everything? It is in everybody's knowledge that they (Congress) are frightened and worried about the personality of BJP leaders, let it be Modi or Advani," Naidu said it in Chennai city.
Meanwhile, Zakia Jaffrey, petitioner and widow of former Congress leader Ehsan Jaffrey, who had reportedly been burnt alive during the communal riots of 2002, expressed joy over Modi being questioned.
"I expect justice from God and Supreme court, because it won't let injustice happen. Since, it is Supreme Court it has been doing justice for years. I'm sure that the Supreme Court will deliver justice," said Jaffrey.
Jaffrey had filed the criminal petition which said that Modi and his administration had aided and abetted the rioters in the mass-killing of Muslims in the carnage that has come to be known as the Gulbarga Society massacre on February 28, 2002, where over 60 people, including her husband, Ehsan Jaffrey, were burnt to death in 2002.
Amid tight security, Modi on Saturday (March 27) appeared before the SIT to inquire into the communal riots in the state. (ANI)
