UP: Woman set ablaze by SP MLA, dies
Lucknow, Mar 20: A Samjawadi Party MLA, who allegedly threw inflammable substance on a woman set her on fire, now faces murder charges as the victim has succumbed to her injuries.
The woman identified as Savitri Devi was set ablaze by SP MLA Sripat Azad on Mar 15. Devi succumbed to her 90 per cent burns on Friday, Mar 19 evening.
An FIR was lodged against the MLA from Sadar constituency for setting the woman on fire and causing grievous injuries. Azad has been absconding since then.
Quoting police sources media reports inform that the case lodged against Azad under section 326 of IPC (causing grievous injuries) would be converted into that of murder now.
