Protestor dies, 25 others taken in custody outside BMC office
Mumbai, Dec 3 (ANI): According to latest reports, a protestor has died outside the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) office here, and 25 other protestors have been taken into police custody.
The BMC today witnessed hundreds of angry residents, who were protesting against the ongoing water crisis due to the water supply cut. They were later lathicharged by the police. The residents had gathered demanding a reply from the BMC officials.
Nitesh Rane, the son of Congress leader Narayan Rane, under the banner of his organisation, the NGP 'Swabhiman Sangathan' led the protestors to the BMC office.
The agitators began assembling outside the BMC office since noon, protesting against the fifteen percent cut introduced in view of the water shortage due to the scant monsoon. Certain residential areas here witnessed another 15 percent water cut in addition to the existing 15 percent cut.
The agitators made an attempt to barge inside the BMC office. They also had a shuffle with the security personnel deployed outside the office, who were trying to disperse the crowd that had gathered.
The BMC officials refused to come out of the office to hold talks with the agitators. (ANI)
