Anti-Sikh riots: Pranab vows justice to victims
New Delhi, Dec 2: The unending cry for justice by Sikhs for victims of anti-Sikh riots finally got the government's assurance as the finance minister Pranab Mukherjee vowed action against the guilty in consultation with the prime minister Manmohan Singh.
Calling the riot as shameful, Mukherjee said the the party will do the needful to bring the guilty to book.
Mukherjee's statement came in response to Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur appeal during the zero hour.
The party along with the opposition parties raised slogans in the question hour against the government's insensitivity towards the issue following which speaker, Meira Kumar had asked the question to be raised during the zero hour.
Kaur had questioned the government's failure to file charges against the accused of the riots which claimed over 2,700 lives.
Sikh groups had earlier written to US president Barack Obama to coax prime minister Manmohan Singh to take action the accused of Anti-Sikh riots.
