Andhra Pradesh: Kadapa to be renamed after YSR

Hyderabad, Oct 6: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to honour the late Chief Minister, YS Rajashekhara Reddy by renaming the Kadapa district after him.

The state government has issued a notification on Monday, Oct 5 to rename the district as 'Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy district". The Kadapa collector has been directed to publish the notification in the district gazette and call for suggestions and objections.

The Chief Minister popularly known as YSR died in a helicopter crash on Sep 2 and a cabinet meeting, chaired by acting CM K Rosaiah on Sep 3 decided to rename Kadapa after the popular leader.

This will be the third district to be renamed after Nellore became Potti Sriramulu Nellore in 2008 and a earlier Ongole was renamed Prakasam in memory of Tanguturi Prakasam, the first Chief Minister of the state.
