Kanjirapally (Kerala), Sep 24(ANI): An elephant went on a rampage in Kerala, injuring one of the mahouts and damaging three vehicles, on Wednesday.

The incident took place in Kanjirapally near Kottayam, when the elephant named 'Sundaran' turned violent while pulling logs around 10 in the morning.

The elephant ran from the site to the nearby road, and later on, overthrew its mahout, Suresh, who was riding on his back.

Suresh sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a nearby hospital.

Vettiyankal tomy, who encountered elephant on the road, said he had a narrow escape from the animal's wrath.

"The elephant was in the middle of the road. I veered off to avoid the animal and opened the door and ran out. The elephant came near the car and overturned it and then pushed it down," Tomy said.

The rampage continued for about four hours and was brought to an end after the animal rescue squad fired tranquilliser shots at the elephant, which finally calmed it down. (ANI)
