Iran: Khamenei orders vote fraud probe
Tehran, Jun 15: Bowing to international and internal pressure, Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered an investigation into the allegations of Presidential election fraud. Iran was witnessing violent protest after the hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was re-elected.
State run television quoted Ayatollah Ali Khamenei directing a high-level clerical panel, the Guardian Council, to look into charges by pro-reform candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, who has said he is the rightful winner of Friday, Jun 12's presidential election.
Guardian Council, took the decision after Mir Hossein Moussavi wrote a letter appealing to it. The Council holds almost limitless power over Iranian affairs. "Issues must be pursued through a legal channel," said Khamenei.
