After Indians, Sri Lankans attacked in Australia
Melbourne, Jun 12: After the Indian students, now it is the turn of Sri Lankans to become victims of racial attacks in Australia. Reports suggest that some miscreants smashed the windows of their home and taunted them with 'racial insults' in Macquaire in north Canberra. It is alleged that three men attacked the house after an unsuccessful attempt to crash a party. The students alleged that a car window was also broken.
One student said to ABC news that he was threatened with a knife. The Sri Lankan students said they had been living in fear, especially keeping in view of the recent violence and racial assault against Indian students in Sydney and Melbourne.
India Australia Association of Canberra president Madhu Kalia said she was surprised by the incidents. “So far Canberra had been alright. There had been no attacks on students," she said.
