Runu Ghosh gets three years imprisonment in disproportionate assets case

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): Former Telecom Department Deputy Director General of Runu Ghosh was on Friday sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment by a court here for amassing disproportionate assets worth Rs.20.94 lakhs.

Special CBI Judge V K Maheshwari ordered the confiscation of the illegal wealth amassed by Ghosh as a public servant when she was working under the then Telecom minister Sukhram and imposed a fine of Rs. one lakh on the 57-year-old former Indian Audit and Account Services officer.

The court, however, suspended her sentence for a period of two months to file an appeal in the Delhi High Court.

It granted her bail on furnishing a personal and a surety bond of Rs.50, 000 each.

The illegal wealth was acquired during a period from November 1, 1992 to August 16, 1996.

On May 12, the court pronounced Ghosh, 57, guilty of possessing the disproportionate assets under the various provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act. (ANI)
