Pakistan Senate appeals to India to lift ban on Pak television programmes
Karachi, Jan.20 (ANI): The Pakistani Senate's Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting has appealed to the Indian Government to lift its ban on broadcasts from Pakistan television channels.
enator Nilofer Bukhtiar said that Pakistan will approach the Indian Parliament to get permission from the government to allow the airing of Pakistani TV channel programmes in the country.
She stressed that Pakistan wants peaceful relations with India.
"Pakistan is a peaceful country and we wish to sustain good relations with all neighbours," The Nation quoted Bukhtiar, as saying.
Of late, Pakistani politicians have demanded that Indian television channels should be blacked out in the country.
PML-Q Leader Tariq Azim said that due to rising tensions between both countries, Pakistan should discontinue airing broadcasts from Indian television channels.
Indian television soap, serials and Bollywood films are very popular in Pakistan. People often throng video libraries here to access the pirated version of Bollywood films as they are not allowed to be shown in cinema halls. (ANI)
