Lahore, Jan 16 (ANI): Pakistan National Assembly member and son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Captain (retired) Mohammad Safdar, has asked President Asif Ali Zardari to quit as he has failed to honour the commitments made to the people.

Safdar was in Mardan to attend a meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz wherein Farooq Khan Hoti, son of Federal Minister Khwaja Muhammad Khan Hoti belonging to the Awami National Party announced that he was joining PML-N, The News reported.

Addressing a meeting of the PML-N workers at Hoti, Mardan, Safdar said Zardari should step down, as he could not live up to the expectations of the people, and had failed to fulfil the commitments made to the masses during electioneering.

Safdar accused the Pakistan People's Party government of taking dictation from abroad, and said the rulers had no policy of their own to run the affairs of the country.

He said that the government's dependence on foreign advices has put the country into turmoil, and the situation has gone from bad to worse after the taking over of the present government.

The PML-N legislator said the country was in grip of militancy, which was rising with every passing day, but the government has no strategy to fight it.

He went on to pledge that if the his party was voted to power, it would take no such dictation from abroad and put in place an indigenous strategy to resolve the problem of terrorism and militancy through broad-based dialogue with the stakeholders.

Safdar also disclosed that twice-elected former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would lead a long march of the party on March 9 as a sign of unanimity and solidarity with the legal fraternity of the country, struggling for restoration of the deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. (ANI)
